LED Lighting Maintenance

Traditional factory, warehouse and office lighting maintenance is often painful and can incur high energy costs. What we get to see on a regular basis are failing ballasts, blown tubes and bulbs and reduced light output. Did you know that with fluorescents, if a tube is removed or blown, the fixture’s ballast still draws the same energy as if the light was 100% operational?

Traditional lights can be expensive to maintain and can consume large amounts of energy making up a significant chunk of a business’s hydro bill. By today’s LED standards, traditional lighting delivers very poor light levels and light quality. Unlike residential customers who only have lights on for a few hours per day, most industrial facilities have the lights on most of the time. While residential lighting uses 40-100 Watts per traditional incandescent bulb, traditional industrial lighting uses much more energy per larger fixtures.

Lamp lumen depreciation is another phenomenon that affects all the traditional lighting. Quality LED lighting is now typically rated at 50,000+ hours with by comparison minor degradation of light quality. Aging traditional lamps will steadily produce less light, while burning up the same energy as when they were new. 12 problems in High Power LED Lighting Application

Human’s lighting history has experienced three times: incandescent lamp, fluorescent lamp, high intensity gas discharge lamp. LED as the fourth generation light source has follows excellent characteristic: high luminous efficiency, less power consumption, long service life, safety reliability etc.  In recent years, LED lighting became popular gradually, but there are still existing some problems in high power LED in lighting application.

1, LED Color Difference Problem

Single LED application, basically there is no color difference problem. But when put many LEDs into to a lamp or with multiple LEDs at the same time, the color difference problem will be out. Although there are machines divide LEDs into 8 divisions by color temperature, with a batch of LEDs in a same color temperature still exists differenceS, and this difference is still can’t escape the naked eye.

2, LED Insulation Problem

A single LED is not insulated, impact can be ignored. But when lots of LEDs in series, insulation will be a problem.

3, LED Pulse resistance problem

This problem is still controversial. But, do exist in practical application. It mainly happened on a cold pulse. The moment of power on, a few LEDs will be breakdown or disconnected.

4, LED Beam Angle Problem

Due to various LED lens, and even the same beam angle, effect is also different. It makes it harder to select snoot.

5, LED Hidden Danger of Blinded Problem

LED light is dot light, its concentration light souce makes center super  brightness, so it is easy to hurt people’s eyes.

6, LED Heat Dissipation Problem

In theory, the LED is low hot, but as a result of current technology, LED heat’s problem is still need to be solved.

7, LED Efficiency Problem

At present, LED electric conversion efficiency is low.

8, LED Brightness Problem

For some application, like store spot light. It’s brightness is not enought to replace the traditional light.

9, LED Lumens depreciation and Life Problem

LED is driven by DC. Using constant current control, makes the drive circuit quite big, and efficiency low. At the same time, the driver life span is too much short than LED’s.

What is Color Tempreture

Color temperature is a characteristic of visible light that has important applications in lighting and other fields. Color temperature is conventionally stated in the unit of absolute temperature, the kelvin, having the unit symbol K.

Absolute temperature (K) was presented in 1848 by the British physicist Keivin. He considers starting point temperature is 273.16 ℃ below zero centigrade. Absolute temperature calculation, therefore, is 273.15 ℃, combined with the Celsius temperature usually used, such as body temperature is 36 ℃, and absolute temperature 309 k.

The color temperature of a light source is the temperature of an ideal black body radiator that radiates light of comparable hue to that of the light source. Is a standard blackbody, heating temperature to a certain extent the color started from deep red to pale red – orange – white – blue and white – blue change gradually. Using this light color changing characteristic, the light from light source color hue to the light of the blackbody at the same time, we will absolute temperature blackbody was known as the color temperature of the light source.
